Hearing Aid Evaluations
There are many types and styles of hearing aids on the market today, all of which range in technology levels and have different features. The audiologists at New Hampshire Hearing Institute will help you choose the right hearing aid for your exact degree of hearing loss and individual lifestyle.
During a hearing aid evaluation, we will ask you some questions to get to know you better. We want to understand where you spend your time, what your goals for better hearing are, and what you need out of a device. Using this information along with your audiogram, we will recommend a pair of hearing aids that will best match your unique needs.
Hearing Aid Fittings
In order for hearing aids to provide you with better hearing, they must be fit and programmed to you. Our team are experts in hearing aid technology and can ensure your devices are fine-tuned optimally for you. Depending on the style of hearing aid you choose, they may require a custom fit ear mold. Your hearing aids should sit comfortably yet securely in/around your ear.
After your hearing aid has been fit, we will program the devices based on the results of your hearing exam. Hearing loss is measured in degrees; mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe or profound. Your aids should be programmed for your exact hearing loss.
Hearing Aid Repairs
Hearing aids are incredibly durable, however like all technology they sometimes require repairs or maintenance. At New Hampshire Hearing Institute, we can expertly troubleshoot and fix most all hearing aid issues. If you are experiencing a problem with one or both of your hearing aids, first try these quick fixes:
- Replace the battery
- Clean your hearing aid using a cleaning tool
- Replace the wax filter
- Open and close the battery door
- Make sure the battery door is free of obstructions
- Check your input settings
If these tips don’t resolve your issue, then you should bring your device in for servicing. We can typically repair your hearing aids on the same day. If your devices have suffered more severe damage, then we may need to send them to the manufacturer to be fixed.
Hearing Aid Cleanings
To maintain the longevity of your hearing aids, it is important to clean them on a daily basis. Every time you take your hearing aids out of your ears you should wipe them down with a dry, soft cloth or a hearing aid cleaning brush. In addition, we recommend bringing your devices in every six months for a professional cleaning. This will ensure your hearing aids last you for many years and you get the most out of your investment.
Hearing Aids for Tinnitus
Tinnitus, also known as “ringing in the ears,” is a common phenomenon that affects millions of people. Tinnitus is when you hear a sound in your ears or head that is not externally present. These phantom sounds can present themselves as a buzzing, humming, ringing, or whistling.
At New Hampshire Hearing Institute, we offer tinnitus masking hearing aids that can alleviate your perception of tinnitus. These hearing aids have a masking feature that can be controlled by an app on your smartphone and play soothing sounds in your ears to distract your brain from tinnitus. While hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can greatly help.
